Become a Pretend City Volunteer and explore various roles throughout our Museum! From helping a child learn a life skill through exhibit exploration, to supporting staff with a birthday party, or assisting with administrative tasks in the office, volunteers make a valuable contribution to help Pretend City reach our goals of educating young children and their families. Have fun helping Pretend City build better brains! We welcome those who are  12 years or older  to volunteer with us at Pretend City Children’s Museum.

Volunteer Positions

We have a wide variety of volunteer positions available. Volunteers are required to volunteer a minimum of 3 hours per month and make a commitment of 15 hours per year before signing up for training.  Current positions available are:

Getti ng Started  Steps

  1. Create an account and submit an application  here.
    (Remember your log in because you will need it to volunteer!)
  2. Take a look at our volunteer handbook. Click Here
  3. Once you’ve completed the application, you will be sent the link to our online orientation and quiz.
  4. Once you’ve completed the online orientation, you will be able to sign up for training.
  5. Start volunteering!

Teen Programming Opportunities

Attention all teens (13-19) who are interested in teaching the next generation! TeensTeach and TeensTable are great opportunities to get more involved in your community and also share your passions, skills, and knowledge with our 0–8-year-old audience.

TeensTeach: Facilitating a program at a designated time in one of our main learning spaces.

Do you dream of teaching kids a mini dance lesson, how to clap to beats, or how to regulate their emotions? This teaching format is great for those who need a set programming space and want to teach an audience at a specific time for a set duration

Submission Deadline: January 15th.

Please keep in mind, there are a limited number of spots and programs that will be chosen based on relevance to our mission and vision. Once the submission period ends, Pretend City’s Program Coordinator will reach out via email to finalize details.

TeensTable: Teaching a skill or activity at a table placed at a singular location in the city.

This drop-in teaching format is a great way to introduce visitors to a new skill, culture, or principle without the stress of a large crowd. The duration of the tabling is up to you!

Submission Deadline: Rolling Basis

Tabling opportunities will be chosen based on relevance to our mission and vision. After 1-2 weeks, Pretend City’s Program Coordinator will reach out via email to finalize details.

Youth Leadership Board

Pretend City’s Youth Leadership Board is directed towards our young volunteers and serves as another avenue to further the mission of Pretend City. If you’re interested in being a part of this advisory board of young leaders, click here!

Healthy Kids, Healthy Museum

To protect the health of Pretend City Children’s Museum community, we ask families to please only come play with us on days that everyone is feeling well.
