Cooking in the City
Get ready for a mouth-watering adventure as we explore the delicious dessert of French macaron.
Art Studio (all day):
- Exploration 1: Pasta necklaces
- Exploration 2: Bean mandalas
- Sensory: Corn meal
Cultural Implication (TIMES 11 am & 2:30 pm):
Join us as 12-year-old baker, Allison Su, introduces the ingredients used to make macarons, a French delicacy, and demonstrates how to make them. Her puppet, Skunky the Skunk, will assist her as well as entertain the children. At the end of the demonstration, you will have a chance to sample her (and Skunky’s) homemade macarons.
About the play partner: Allie first started baking during COVID-19 and it became her passion. Since then, she has started her own bakery (Sweetz Bakery), taught summer camps at home, sold her desserts at a Youth Entrepreneur Fair twice as well as to friends and family, and won three blue and one red ribbon at the OC Fair for her macarons.
Grown up tip: Food brings people together as friends, families and strangers. When your little one witnesses the process of a dish being made, they are more likely going to try the meal. Try letting your child help out in the kitchen!
